You could be currently in your 2014 Use Year, but booking for a resort stay during your 2015 Use Year, and borrowing 2016 Use Year points to do it. You can’t use most of them because they are far out in the future, far out from your booking windows, but they are there. It is more correct to say that you receive all your points, for EVERY year up until the expiration of the contract, when you get your contract. This isn’t exactly true, and it confuses some into thinking they can’t make reservations until they’ve “received” their points. Some others tell people that you receive your points on the 1st of the month. So, if you have a September Use Year and a 200 point contract, it means you have 200 points (to start with) that you can use between September 1st and August 31st the following year. But what that essentially means is that you get an allotment of points to use for reservations within the year that starts on the first of that month, and ends the day before the 1st day of that month a year later.

The fact that it is often expressed as a month alone can confuse people. I’ve developed an analogy that I think helps people understand these things betterįirst, let’s explain what a Use Year is…when you purchase a DVC contract, your are given a home resort, a number of points per year, and a Use Year, which is given as a particular month – for example, February or September (note: DVC does not sell Use Years that are in January, May, July or November). In many discussion groups, people often seem very confused by how Use Years, banking, borrowing, booking windows, etc. Once things are less stressed, borrowing rules will return to normal. This is due to WDW having been closed for so long, and so many members unable to use their points that there are more points needing to be used than available rooms. This is a change from last year when charts were not released until after the meeting. Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, DVC has temporarily changed some of the rules, most notably that you can only borrow up to 50% of a Use Year’s points. On the other hand, Members who wish to travel in certain weeks in October and November will require more Points than the year before. For example, Members can enjoy stays for fewer Points than the year before when traveling in early September and during the summer period. However, those Members with more flexible travel schedules can enjoy stays using fewer Points than the previous year. Travel periods with greater demand will require more Points and travel periods with less demand will require fewer Points.
